Sean Wrinkle, a High Point University senior from the Bahamas ,has three things he loves to do: broadcast journalism, theater performance and competitive wrestling.

During Wrinkle’s sophomore year he signed up to join the HPU news team. While he first auditioned to become an anchor, Wrinkle did not get the role he aimed for; however, he did end up becoming a reporter. Eventually he was promoted to an anchor position after gaining experience during his time as a reporter.

Wrinkle has also participated in several theater productions such as “Mary Stuart,” “Curtains” and “Underpants.”

“‘Underpants’ was my favorite performance but ‘Curtains’ was also a wild time.” That’s because it was challenging for Wrinkle to play two different roles in “Curtains.”

The lead was not present for the first month so Wrinkle had to play both roles during rehearsals. There were several scenes where he would be playing two different roles simultaneously. Thankfully, the lead returned in time for the show.

Wrinkle was also a competitive wrestler for the Bahamas Olympic Wrestling Team. Wrinkle started wrestling in high school when his high school coach invited him personally to try out.

“My coach saw me carrying a log while we were building a bonfire at school,” Wrinkle said. “He asked what I was doing next semester and invited me to try out because he needed freshmen and gave me an option to opt out if I didn’t like it. He said ‘If you stick with me for four years, you will be the top four in the states. I guarantee you.’”

Last year Wrinkle competed with the Bahamas Olympic Wrestling Team in Australia for The Commonwealth Games. When he was offered the chance to compete with the Olympic team, he was also offered a role in the campus theater production. Wrinkle chose wrestling. He ended up having a fantastic time in Australia even though he had to learn a challenging new wrestling rule unique to Australia just weeks before the match.

Wrinkle is graduating on May 11 with a bachelor’s degree in electronic media production. He plans to travel while producing his own content after graduating.
