High Point University alum John Brown paid a visit to the James H. and Jesse E. Millis Athletic and Convocation Center on Feb. 20, where the Panthers beat Presbyterian College’s Blue Hose, 82-70.

Graduating in 2016, Brown was a standout performer when he wore purple and white. Playing from 2012 to 2016, he averaged just under 19 points per game and seven rebounds.

Brown was a four-time All-Big South First Team, two-time AP All American and is second on HPU’s all-time scoring list. He was known for his abilities to play above the rim. His dunks and blocks put him on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays many times, giving him national recognition.

Brown certainly choose a good game to attend. Including the Panthers’ win against Presbyterian College, they have won three of their last four games in the James H. and Jesse E. Millis Athletic and Convocation Center.

Freshman Eric Coleman Jr. decided to have a career night. He shot 80% from deep and 12-14 from the free-throw line, earning his season and HPU career high of 30 points.

Coach Tubby Smith has seen the growth in the team throughout the year.

“We are getting better,” Smith said in his post-game interview. “I am really pleased with our freshmen.”

The Panthers are currently sitting with a record of 9-19 and 6-9 in conference. They have three games left in the 2019-2020 season, all of which are against Big South Conference teams.

The Panthers will have their final game at home in the James H. and Jesse E. Millis Athletic and Convocation Center before moving to the new Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center for the 2020-2021 season.
